Barcelona in Talks to Hijack Liverpool Midfielder Stefan Bajčetić’s Move

Barcelona is currently in discussions to disrupt Liverpool midfielder Stefan Bajčetić’s anticipated move to RB Salzburg. The 19-year-old player has become a loan target for Barça following Marc Bernal’s unfortunate injury that will keep him out of action for several months due to a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament.

While RB Salzburg appeared to be leading the race to secure a deal for Bajčetić, the emergence of Barcelona has added a new twist to the situation. Former Liverpool midfielder Thiago Alcantara, who is familiar with Bajčetić from their time together at Anfield, is reportedly advocating for a season-long loan move to be finalized.

Barcelona initially had no plans to strengthen their midfield this season. However, Bernal’s injury has forced the club to reconsider their strategy, especially with key players like Gavi and Frenkie de Jong still sidelined due to injuries.

Stefan Bajčetić joined Liverpool from Celta Vigo in 2020 and has since made 22 appearances for the first team. While he started as a center-back, manager Jürgen Klopp transitioned him into a midfielder, showcasing his versatility as a player who can operate in different positions across the backline.

Barcelona has faced challenges in registering new signings this season, with Dani Olmo missing the initial matches before finally making his debut against Rayo Vallecano. The potential loan move for Bajčetić, however, could offer a solution as it wouldn’t pose significant financial constraints on the club.

As the transfer window deadline approaches, Barcelona’s potential bid to secure Stefan Bajčetić on loan highlights their determination to reinforce their squad in the midst of unexpected setbacks. With the support of Thiago Alcantara and competition from other clubs, the young midfielder’s final destination remains uncertain.
